The McCallion Band:Bio
The McCallion Band plays original Americana, folk/rock, traditional style country, and rock and roll with joyful, punkish abandon. Fronted by Nancy McCallion, former singer/songwriter from international touring band, The Mollys, The McCallion Band features an impressive repertoire of original material and some of the finest veterans of the Tucson music scene: Danny Krieger on guitar, slide guitar, and vocals, Neil McCallion on bass and vocals, and Les Merrihew on drums.
Originally from LA, Danny Krieger is one of the Southwest's most respected guitarists. He toured the world with British pop band 'Christy' in the early '70s and recorded with a variety of artists ranging from Exene Cervenka to the late Andy Gibb. He's also worked with Big Joe Turner, Coco Montoya, Johnny Rivers, Smokey Wilson & Eric Burdon, and John "Juke" Logan. In 2000 Danny won a Tucson Area Music Award (TAMMY) for guitar, and he is a member of the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame.
Singer/Songwriter and bass player Neil McCallion cut his teeth in VFWs and dive bars while earning a music degree at The University of Arizona. He's worked in a variety of Tucson bands including Idle Hands and more recently, Neil McCallion and the Mighty Maxwells. Neil adds some of his own original songs to the band's setlist and occasionally plays classical guitar during the bands quite moments. It's been 30 years since Neil's done a musical project with his sister, Nancy, and the two of them have begun to rediscover their shared influences in The McCallion Band.
Rounding out the rhythm section is one of Tucson's favorite drummers, Les Merrihew. Les has worked with The Coasters, The Drifters, Albert Collins, Charlie Musselwhite, Pinetop Perkins and Little Milton. Originally from Seattle, he quickly established himself as a serious player and is sought out by a number of Tucson bands in search of an outstanding drummer.
